FAQ
The questions that come up most often, in the order people ask them.
What does a card cost?
Gates × 0.0000234 BNB, plus 0.0001 protocol fee and 0.0002 tapeout fee. Gas is extra. A 40-gate card is 0.001236 BNB; a 2,118-gate card is 0.049861 BNB.
Why three transactions?
Three contracts: buy the gates, burn them to tape out the circuit, stamp the edition. A single button would need a router holding your funds between steps.
Why does the price not change as cards sell?
Because it is a function of the drawing, not of demand: gates × a fixed unit price. The unit price and the capacity were set when the foundry opened.
My card says #7 but the edition is 6/100.
Both are correct. #7 is the token id on the wrapper — a global counter across every drawing. 6/100 is the edition inside its own drawing. Token ids run globally; editions run per drawing.
Why is there no picture on the raw circuit?
Raw circuits have no metadata. Wrapping adds it: the drawing, gate count, edition and series are written on chain. External marketplaces read the wrapped token.
Can the foundry issue more cards?
The per-gate price and the 12,000,000-gate capacity were fixed when the foundry opened. Edition caps are enforced by the registry. Neither can be edited.
Someone copied the drawing. Is my card fake?
The drawings are public on purpose. A copy runs on a different processor, and the verify page checks the processor address as well as the netlist.
What happens when a drawing sells out?
The registry stops issuing numbers for it. The drawing stays public and a copy can still be taped out, but no further numbered editions will exist.
Can I sell it?
Yes, two ways: list on TapeOut's market, or wrap it and list on Element. Both are permissionless. See Markets and wrapping.
Why is there no date for Series 02?
Because the next stage opens on conditions: 30% sold triggers the drawing vote, 60% opens Series 02. A condition can be checked on chain.
Can I buy parts without taping out?
Yes. Gates sit in your wallet until you use them. They do not expire, but they only build this foundry's drawings.
What if the tapeout fails after I bought parts?
The gates stay in your wallet. Reopening the page and tapping out again does not re-buy them — the page reads your balance and mints only the shortfall.
Do I need to claim the edition immediately?
No. A taped-out circuit can be claimed later, but it will receive the next available number rather than the one it would have received earlier.
What do I get for completing the set?
The set mark — a non-transferable token that says this wallet assembled all eleven drawings — plus a founding-set listing, a 48-hour early window at Series 02 (double the holder window), and the right to name one Series 02 drawing. The full table is on Holders.
What does solving the puzzle do?
It records a public streak and season position, and it demonstrates the one thing a gate count is for: a card that can reach further can answer questions a smaller card cannot represent. Seven consecutive days will carry a solver mark.
Is there a discount for buying many?
No. The price is gates × 0.0000234 BNB for everyone, in every quantity. What you get for buying several of the same drawing is lower edition numbers, and for buying across drawings, the set.
What do I get for holding a card?
A circuit you own, a vote on the Series 02 drawing list at 30% sold, first access to the next series, and a non-transferable mark on the wallet that holds all eleven drawings. The details are in Holding a card.
Why is the multiplier so much more expensive?
Because it is 53 times the gates. At one unit price, 2,118 gates cost 53 times 40 gates and burn 53 times the supply. The compare page draws both at the same scale.
How do I check a card myself?
Read netlist(id) and hash it, read circuitInfo(id).gates, read editionOf(cpu, id). The verification page walks through each call.
